New Year’s Day 5k

Who was in bed by 10:30 on New Year’s Eve?  Obviously a socially responsible and boring adult like me.  Knowing that I had to be up at 7:30 to run in a 5k today was motivation enough to let the ball drop without me watching it.  Word to the wise…sleep is way better.

I’ve been planning on doing the NYD 5k for quite some time now and was fortunate enough to convince my good friend Robyn to do so as well.  The morning started with a light drizzle but luckily it ended by the time we arrived at the race.  The weather could not have been more perfect.  Cool enough for us not to get hot, but warm enough not to feel chilly.

Semi coordinating. Looking forward to 2012.

We decided to start out walking and then agreed to run when we felt like we were able.  We did some serious power walking and were able to run for a bit. Once we passed the turn around on the out and back course, Robyn gave me her blessing to run on ahead.  I slowly took off and felt pretty good.  Running still seems a little hard for me right now, but I know it is only because my lack of cardio.  My legs feel great!  I finished then ran back to see Robyn finish.  Racing is a lot more fun when you do it with supportive friends.  There was a huge line for post race food so we ended up snagging some OJ and getting the heck out of there.

Once I got home, I joined my Momma and Big Sis on a brisk 5 mile walk making it 8 miles for the day.  Not too bad for starting off the new year!

How did you ring in the new year?  What are your fitness goals for 2012?
