SFM 2013 Ambassador

Way back before I started blogging, there were about four running blogs that I followed consistently.  The first ever being Runner’s Rambles.  Aron blogs all about her running out on the west coast in the San Francisco area and I loved reading about a world full of tempos, tapering and training.  It was all foreign to me.  Last year I read her recap about being an ambassador for the San Francisco Marathon and became interested in adding the race to my never ending race bucket list.

Several weeks ago I noticed via Twitter that SFM was accepting applications for the 2013 Ambassador Program. I was hesitant about applying since 1. I have never ran a marathon, 2. I can barely run faster than an 11:00/mile pace, and 3. I had never even been to California.  But I figured that I had nothing to lose and applied anyway.  A few weeks later I was contacted for a phone interview and really had the chance to tell my story and explain what I would represent.  I loved the idea that being an ambassador isn’t even about promoting the marathon itself, rather it was a program to help spread the joy of running to others. When asked what I had to offer the program, I simply said that I represent the back of the pack runners who don’t always finish in a certain standard of time or those who walk a good portion of the race.  Those people often go unnoticed and being able to reach out to the back of the packers and be one of them is an honor in itself.

Well, drumroll please….I got selected!  I am officially an ambassador for the San Francisco Marathon that will take place in June 2013. Crazy, right!  I’m so excited to get started and start training and begin my role as an ambassador.  I could not be more thankful for the opportunity and cannot wait to share my experience with y’all.
